Three-time Cup Series champion Joey Logano said rivals used to wait for a young Kyle Larson to make a mistake after he passed them, but that Larson does not give them that chance anymore.

Larson can join Logano as a three-time champion in today’s finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Logano: ‘He’ll hit the wall in a few’

“You kind of remember when he first started. He was always fast, especially here in Homestead. And then he’d hit the wall,” Logano said in a clip posted by Eric Estepp. “And, like, see, you weren’t worried about it. Like, he’d pass you, and you’d go, nah, whatever. He’ll hit the wall in a few and have a flat tire. And he did. He doesn’t hit the wall anymore.”

“And he’s proven many times he’s freaking talented, right? And the kid’s so good. So, yeah, he’s really coming to his own.”

‘A very deserving champion’

“Yeah, I mean, every time you win one, it’s a huge event, right? They’re so hard to come by. And Larson’s a very deserving champion. And I know he hasn’t won it yet, but let’s be real,” Logano said. He said joining the three-time champions would put Larson in “a pretty cool group of drivers.”

Logano won titles in 2018, 2022 and 2024 for Team Penske. Larson won in 2021 and 2025 for Hendrick Motorsports. If he wins today, Larson will be the 11th driver in Cup history with at least three titles, and the second active driver with three, along with Logano.

What Larson needs

Larson leads Christopher Bell by 67 points and Denny Hamlin by 70, and needs nine points to clinch, as Pit This Time reported. A 28th-place finish would do it even without stage points.

Larson went winless in the 26-race regular season and entered the Chase seventh, 55 points back. He has won three of nine Chase races since.

He also won the last Cup race at Homestead, in March 2025, his second Cup win at the track.

The Straight Talk Wireless 400 starts at 3 p.m. ET on NBC.
