RFK Racing plans to run its No. 60 full time in the Cup Series in 2027, but it could use a rotation of drivers instead of one full-time driver, The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi said.
Bianchi spoke on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Wednesday, the day RFK announced that Ryan Preece will move from the No. 60 to the No. 6 next season, as Pit This Time reported.

Nemechek was the target
Bianchi said RFK had been talking with John Hunter Nemechek, who signed the same day to drive Haas Factory Team‘s No. 41 in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, as Pit This Time reported.
“The plan is for them to run a third car full-time. That would be the 60 car, which is non-chartered,” Bianchi said. “If you look at the landscape right now, there aren’t a lot of available drivers. I mean, the one name that they had, the one name they had been talking to was John Hunter Nemechek. Well, John Hunter Nemechek is now in a full-time ride in the O’Reilly Series with Haas. So he’s off the board.”
‘A rotation of drivers’
“Now, that said, one option, and that I know is being considered, is they could have a rotation of drivers in that car next year, in that 60 car,” Bianchi said. “It isn’t just one driver in that car running full-time. It’s a rotation of drivers running that car, which would then be full-time.”
“And I know they have spoken to at least one driver, if not multiple drivers for that car. So the plan is for RFK to run three full-time teams next year with two full-time drivers in two of those cars. But then the third team would kind of have a rotation.”
No charter for the No. 60
The No. 60 has run this season on a charter leased from Rick Ware Racing, which could only be leased for one year. RFK said in May that it would run three cars in 2027 with or without another charter. Without one, the No. 60 would run as an open entry and would have to race its way into some events.
Preece takes over the No. 6 from co-owner Brad Keselowski, whom RFK released to drive elsewhere.
The Cup Series season ends Sunday, November 8, at 3 p.m. ET on NBC from Homestead-Miami Speedway.
