Kaden Honeycutt said his 20-point Truck Series lead is “definitely not comfortable in the slightest bit” after a 14th-place finish at Martinsville Speedway on Friday night, and that he plans to go win the finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Honeycutt came into the Black’s Tire 200 with a 43-point lead over Layne Riggs. Riggs swept both stages and finished third, and only a late win by his Front Row Motorsports teammate Chandler Smith kept Riggs from taking the lead.

Honeycutt: ‘I got bailed out’

Honeycutt was in line for a top-10 finish before contact with Tristan McKee on the final restart knocked him out of line. He talked with McKee on pit road after the race.

“I had nothing against him,” Honeycutt said on the FS1 broadcast. “I just wanted to ask him if the 88 hit him. When I looked in my mirror and I saw [McKee] was sideways, I didn’t know if he got free in or run over. I just wanted to see what he said… I didn’t get the call three-wide until it was too late.”

“Sucky deal, but I got bailed out there, especially with Chandler winning that race. I’m really surprised he went and did that.”

Ty Majeski drives the No. 88. A replay showed McKee trying to give Majeski room before he got into Honeycutt.

‘Gotta go win Homestead’

“Twenty points, but definitely not comfortable in the slightest bit. Gotta go win Homestead next week,” Honeycutt said. “Just focus on winning, I think that’s all we can do. Just struggled today.”

He said his team is confident about the finale. “I got all the confidence going to Homestead. [Crew chief Scott Zipadelli] loves Homestead. This team loves Homestead… We’re not done yet, we got one more to go.”

The title fight

Honeycutt has 2,403 points and Riggs is 20 back. Smith, third in the standings, is 103 back and out of contention, so the title will be decided between Honeycutt and Riggs. A race win is worth 55 points and a driver can score at most 76 in a race.

The Truck Series finale is Friday, November 6, at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida, on FS1.
