Joey Logano said the Carson Hocevar push that flipped him at Talladega Superspeedway came after Hocevar had been pushing him “in all the right places,” and that it took only one bad shove to end his day.
Logano talked about the crash with Will Buxton on FOX Sports’ SPEED channel this week. “Yeah, I got the bad end of that one,” he said.
Logano: ‘One bad push is all it takes’
“And you know, he was honestly pushing me in all the right places before that,” Logano said. “Like he was pushing me off the corners. He wasn’t getting me squirrelly. I was honestly impressed for a moment. I was like, ‘oh, he’s really doing a good job here.’”
“Wasn’t shoving me through the one. He was letting me go before I got into one, like all of it was working really good. And then, you know, one bad push is all it takes. It just takes one.”
The crash
The 15-car crash came on Lap 183 of Sunday’s YellaWood 500, with five laps left. Logano spun off the bumper of Carson Hocevar‘s No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet in the tri-oval, hit the outside wall and slid across the start-finish line on his roof. He climbed out after safety workers turned the car over.

Riley Herbst hit the inside wall nearly head-on in the same crash. Both drivers were checked at the infield care center and released.
Hocevar took the blame
Hocevar said after the race that he was looking in his mirror at the lanes behind him when he made contact, as Pit This Time reported.
“I was more so looking at my rearview, and when I looked up, it was more so because I felt a bump, and I just hit him in the rear at the wrong time,” Hocevar said. “But I was more so looking at my rearview, so that’s on me for that, but yeah, that’s my fault.”
Where it leaves Logano
Logano, a three-time Talladega winner, won Stage 2 and finished 34th. He is fifth in the Chase standings for Team Penske, 100 points behind Kyle Larson.
The Cup Series races next at Martinsville Speedway in Ridgeway, Virginia, on Sunday, November 1, at 2 p.m. ET on NBC.
