Shane van Gisbergen said Trackhouse Racing has “some big team changes coming,” after a top-five finish in Sunday’s Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway. He did not say what the changes are.
Van Gisbergen: ‘All three cars trying stuff’
After the race, van Gisbergen was asked whether his short-track results were about building his notebook for when he returns to these tracks next year.
“Yeah, for sure, we’ve got some big team changes coming,” van Gisbergen said. “So it’s good to still be experimenting and all three cars trying stuff. We’ve got to work forward as a team, and I think as a team we’re working quite well together at the moment.”
Nobody in the group of reporters asked a follow-up question, and Trackhouse has not said what changes he was referring to.
A strong day on an oval
Van Gisbergen, the New Zealand road racing star, started 29th at Martinsville and worked his way into the top five, another sign of his progress on ovals. He won the 2023 Chicago street race in his Cup debut and has been Trackhouse’s full-time driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet since 2025, with most of his success coming on road and street courses.
What could be changing
Trackhouse fields three cars, for van Gisbergen, Ross Chastain and Connor Zilisch. Zilisch will leave after next season to replace Alex Bowman in Hendrick Motorsports’ No. 48 Chevrolet in 2028, it was announced in August.
Van Gisbergen is still under contract with Trackhouse. Team changes at the Cup level often mean new crew chiefs, engineers or pit crews, and any of those would affect what he and his teammates are testing in the final races of 2026.
What’s next
The Cup Series season ends Sunday, November 8, at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Van Gisbergen is not in the Chase.
