Carson Hocevar said he wants to find the tow truck driver who got his wrecked car back to his crew during the red flag at Talladega Superspeedway, a rescue that let him return and finish sixth.

Hocevar told the story in a video posted on X by Turn 4 Report.

‘I’m going to keep you in the race’

Hocevar’s No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet was left against the wall with four flat tires after the 15-car crash on Lap 183 of Sunday’s YellaWood 500. “Can’t go anywhere. I’m like in the wall,” he said.

He said the tow truck driver ran over before anyone could ask what he needed. “All of a sudden the tow truck driver runs over. He goes, ‘Hey man, I’m going to keep you in the race,’” Hocevar said. He called the driver “a massive MVP of the situation.”

Hocevar said they went about 45 miles per hour back toward the garage, passing other damaged cars. When his crew asked for another look under the car, the driver lifted it again so they could check the damage.

“The tow truck driver sets me back down and he’s just like this. He’s like, ‘I did good,’” Hocevar said. His answer: “Yes, you did.”

‘That dude needs a couple hundred bucks’

Hocevar said he does not know the driver’s name and wants to thank him.

“I need to find this tow truck guy’s name,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s legal or not, but I was like, dude, that dude needs a couple hundred bucks. Or something, or at least some gift cards.”

From the wall to sixth

Hocevar’s crew put four tires on the car, and he got back out ahead of the field before the restart and finished sixth. He also took the blame for the contact that started the crash, which flipped Joey Logano‘s car onto its roof, as Pit This Time reported.

“I was more so looking at my rearview, so that’s on me for that, but yeah, that’s my fault,” Hocevar said after the race.

Hocevar, the spring Talladega winner, is 10th in the Chase standings. The Cup Series races next at Martinsville Speedway in Ridgeway, Virginia, on Sunday, November 1, at 2 p.m. ET on NBC.
